I've seen it emerge alot - mainly on webcam sites that were b4 the big sites now.. the ones that were studio websites pay per month... you'd have a community there where people interacted over time... (i believe its similar to when too often musicians focus on making it big... and they miss the point - people want to say - "I knew them when" - that feel is very important too - that's kinda the American Idol fast track method) Also I have seen alot of user groups and things like that and seen those cycles...as members move on and things change in peoples life...
